January 23th – 25th 2015 #RadOnc Journal Club: Head & Neck Cancer

January 22, 2015

The January 2015 #RadOnc journal club will be discussing the article:

Institutional clinical trial accrual volume and survival of patients with head and neck cancer.

This study is a secondary analysis of RTOG 0129, a trial evaluating radiation dose schedules with chemotherapy. The focus is on head and neck cancer survival and disease progression outcomes based upon the differences in institutional accrual in the trial.

As usual, we will start the asynchronous portion of the journal club on January 23th and will end the journal club on January 25th discussing the questions below with the participation of the first author, Dr. Evan Wuthrick of Ohio State University’s James Cancer Center (@EvanWuthrick- please follow him on Twitter!).

Here are the topics we will be covering:

T1a: What is the role of radiation in head and neck cancer?

T1b: What was the goal of RTOG 0129 and what did the results demonstrate?

T2: What was the goal of this research study?

T3a: What were the results of this research study?

T3b: What are some caveats to these results?

T4: How can we apply this information to our head and neck cancer patients?

Thanks to the generosity of ASCO and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, this article will be free and open access for the duration of the chat! Here is the link:

We are looking forward to chatting with the #RadOnc community about this important topic! It should be a great start to 2015.
