In honor of World Cancer Day earlier this month, our February #radonc journal club will focus on global radiation therapy.
Thanks to Clinical Oncology, Charlotte Coles and Catherine O’Hara, some of the articles we are discussing should be open access. Instead of detailed focus upon methods/materials, we wanted to review the topic as a theme for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Here are the articles:
The benefits of providing external beam radiotherapy in low- and middle-income countries.
Analysis of global radiotherapy needs and costs by geographic region and income level.
Mobilising expertise and resources to close the radiotherapy gap in cancer care.
The format will differ, with no ‘live’ hour. Instead, we’ll have a free-flowing conversation with leaders in global health. More authors may join but please follow these folks to start:
Michael Barton, Surbhi Grover, Danielle Rodin, Mei Ling Yap , and Eduardo Zubizarreta.
Also joining us is Saif Ahmad, who has discussed this issue as well for Clinical Oncology in two podcasts.
We will start open chat 6 AM CST Saturday 18th February to include global participation through the weekend, ending Sunday afternoon/evening.
Here are guidelines on how to sign up and participate
Read our disclaimer for ways to keep it rewarding and professional. You can just lurk and tune into the conversation, and when you’re ready we’d love to hear your opinion.
Any suggestions? Leave a comment or tweet us at @Rad_Nation. We look forward to you joining us this weekend!
